Sony announced two new super-telephoto primes on September 15, 2026: the Sony FE 400mm f4.5 GM OSS (SEL400F45GM) and the Sony FE 600mm f6.3 GM OSS (SEL600F63GM). Both stay under one kilogram without the tripod collar.
The Sony 400mm GM weighs 994 grams without the tripod collar and measures 108 × 242 mm. The Sony 600mm GM weighs 995 grams and measures 108 × 263 mm. Sony lists the 400mm at $2,699.99 and the 600mm at $3,699.99. Both ship from late September 2026.
Both lenses run two XD Linear Motors, plus optical image stabilization. On the Alpha 9 III you get up to 120 frames per second, with autofocus and exposure keeping up. The teleconverters are confirmed too: the 400mm becomes 560mm at f6.3 or 800mm at f9, and the 600mm becomes 840mm at f9 or 1,200mm at f13.
