Sony: New Lenses and Firmware Update
Two New Lenses in February?
According to recent rumors, Sony is planning to launch two new lenses:
- Sony 16mm f/1.8 G – A highly compact and fast wide-angle prime lens.
- Sony 400-800mm f/6.3-8.0 G – A super-telephoto lens designed similarly to the 200-600mm but expected to be lighter and more compact.
Wildlife photographers will likely be most interested in the 400-800mm. If it maintains f/6.3 at 600mm and delivers image quality comparable to the 200-600mm, it could serve as a potential replacement. However, there is no official confirmation yet. (As of January 29, 2025)
Sony A1 Firmware Update 3.0
The new firmware doesn’t bring autofocus improvements—something many had stopped expecting—but introduces an interesting feature: “Camera Authenticity Solution.” This allows the camera to digitally sign images to verify their authenticity.

Canon: EOS R7 Mark II – APS-C Flagship or Just a Rumor?
The Canon EOS R7 Mark II could mark a significant advancement in Canon’s APS-C lineup—if the rumors that have been circulating since early 2024 prove to be true. Speculation has intensified in recent weeks.
Expected Highlights:
- APS-C stacked sensor with 24 or 32.5 megapixels (depending on the source).
- 4K video at 120 fps.
- Improved autofocus, possibly incorporating technology from the R3.
A stacked sensor would be a major leap forward, appealing to wildlife and sports photographers. However, if Canon includes this technology, a significant price increase is expected.
So far, there is no official announcement.
